Exhibits are a great deal of work. One show has to come down and the next show has to go up. It involves a significant amount of planning, cooperative effort, and long hours. None of the people working at the Gallery are paid. They are all volunteers. As such, they are generously sharing their personal time and resources to assist the art community. It all goes much more efficiently if participating artists keep the following points in mind.

As an artist about to exhibit in the Art Trail Gallery, you should be aware that we have the following expectations regarding your participation:

1. Information supplied on the exhibit application is both accurate and complete.

2. Your work is ready to hang on the dates specified. That is normally several days in advance of the opening.

3. Your works have the necessary hardware that allow them to be hung.

4. You are responsible for hanging your own works.

5. When you display your work, you are also expected to set it up in such a way that it is attractive to the visitor. If you are puzzled or uncertain, ask. We will be happy to offer suggestions. However, we also reserve the right to re-organize and re-hang works that are not showing to their best.

6. If your work requires a pedestal or easel, you will be responsible for supplying it.

7. You are responsible for creating neat, legible cards for display next to each piece that provide critical information about your work for the visitor.

8. You are also responsible for placing those cards next to your works.

9. If you wish to have a price list available, you are responsible for creating the price list and for supplying necessary copies.

10. Items like biographies are also the responsibility of the artists, as are copies of biographies.

11. When the show is over and work has to be picked up, you are expected to be on time.

12. You are expected to take down and remove your own works.

13. Because the Gallery is an all-volunteer venture, it is expected that you, as an artist taking advantage of the Gallery’s resources, will do something to augment those resources. Will you help with supplies for the opening? Will you volunteer during regular hours? Will you teach? Will you make a donation? Will you clean? Let us know.

14. If there is something noteworthy about your technique or about your background, let us know about that, too. We will do our best to bring it to the attention of the public.

Having said all this, be aware that we have a great deal of flexibility in our operation. Artists often ask if they can bring in a different piece after the exhibit opens. The answer is normally “yes.” Sometimes, life happens, and dates for intake, etc. just don’t work. We do our best to accommodate your needs. However, keep in mind that it means volunteers need to disrupt their lives to handle the request. Consequently, stay organized and only make such a request when necessary.
